Vermonters are a frugal bunch. We use it up, and wear it out before we throw it out. The South Hero town hall built in the 1920's has done great service to South Hero as a school gym, a theater, then as a town hall, meeting space and a polling place. But after almost 100 years the structure has reached a point where repairs and remediation are no longer easy nor affordable. It is more economical to build a new town hall for the next 100 years than patch up the old. A 30 year bond would cost the average $500,000 assessed home $65 per year- less than a dinner out for two.
The time has come to be frugal and invest in the next 100 years of South Hero.
